Erodium meynieri Maire
Annual; many stems; root thin; herb entirely green.
Leaves: Leaves green-grey, clothed in hairs 0.5mm long, dense, mixed with many subsessile shining glandular hairs; basal leaves outline cordate-ovate, nearly4.5 x 2.5cm, bi- or tri-pinnatisect; lacinae all narrow, ultimately ovate obtuse; cauline leaves reduced; stipules white, scariose, ovate or triangular-lanceolate, ciliate, obtuse, 4-5 x 3mm.
Inflorescence: Stems nearly 25cm, ascending; peduncles 7cm, 2-5 flowers; bracts4-5, more or less connate at base, ovate, white scariose, nerve green, ciliate, apex obtuse, 2 x 1.5mm; pedicels filiform, 8mm; sepals oblong, apex rounded, very short mucro; petals without spots/marks, vivid purple, obovate, base a glabrous claw, 7mm, apex rotundate, hardly longer than calyx; filaments white-pink, base lanceolate, ciliate outside, 3mm long; anthers purple; pollen white.
Fruit: Beak 3-4cm; foveole little glandular with deep furrow; awn has 3-6 turns. 2n=20 Guitt.
Distribution: endemic to Hogger Mts at 1900-2000m; Morocco, Atlas Mts at 1000-16000m; stony and open montane places central Sahara, after rains in Ahagger Mts
Differs from E. neuradifolium only in having 3-6 turns in the seed awn and a glandular foveole where E. neuradifolium has 8-10 and no glands in the foveole.
