Erodium sebaceum Del.


Perennial herb; stems a short, stout, branching caudex terminating the taproot.

Leaves: Leaves up to20cm, green, soft hairy, pinnate; leaflets pinnatisect; leaves rather sticky due to the presence of glandular hairs.

Inflorescence: umbels of 9 to 16 flowers arise directly from the crown; peduncle slightly longer than the leaves and sticky with glandular hairs; flowers 2.5-3cm  across; petals narrowly obovate, unequal, white but tipped and veined pink, the 2 upper marked brown-red, lower three being merely stained at base; staminodes pink; stamen filaments pink; anthers purple; stigma purple; flowers March-June.

Fruit: fruit 4.5-5cm; mericarp c. 6-7 mm; foveole with one furrow below, both with few spherical glands; cotyledons hairy, one larger than the other, each with 1 notch in each side. 2n=20.

Distribution: endemic to Morocco; terrace pastures of medium mountains, in silicaceous terrain at 1200-1900m.
