Erodium masguindali Pau

Perennial; plant rhizomatous but stemless

Leaves: leaves glabrous or hirsute; outline lanceolate, pinnate with 6-7 pairs of leaflets; leaflets ovate, pinnatisect, needle-tipped; stipules lanceolate, brown.

Inflorescence: peduncles sub-pilose; bracts 4mm long, broad ovate, mucronate, pale reddish-brown, glabrous; pedicels 6x sepal length; sepals oblong, mucronate, glabrous, beneath white-pilose; petals deep violet, not quite 2x sepal length, bases striate.

Fruit: rostrum 3-3.5 cm; mericarps hispid; foveole eglandular, with concentric folds; awn with 5-6 turns. 2n=20 Guitt.

Distribution: endemic to North Morocco (Tetouan); rocky pastures of low chalky mountains; flowers March to June
